The Story Behind Literally Black
At Literally Black, we’re not just selling books—we’re curating a space where Black women feel seen, celebrated, and connected. We’re amplifying Black voices, one story at a time, and creating a home for those who know that literature is more than entertainment—it’s culture, it’s art, it’s life.
Literally Black is my love letter to our stories and our community. Growing up, I didn’t always see myself reflected in the books I read, and I knew that had to change. Black stories deserve to be front and center—not hidden, not niche. That’s why I started Literally Black: to remind Black people that that their voices matter, and that their experiences deserve to be celebrated.
This space is built around three passions of mine:
- Books: I’m passionate about showcasing Black authors and curating collections that highlight the beauty and brilliance of our storytelling. From fiction to poetry, romance to fantasy, I’m here to bring our words to the forefront.
- Community: Literally Black isn’t just about the books; it’s about the people. Through The Cookout, we’ve built a family where Black women can come together, vibe, and connect—whether it’s at The Gazebo for deep discussions or in The Groupchat where we keep it real between meetings.
- Representation: Everything I create—book boxes, merch, events—is rooted in celebrating Black excellence. From the big things to the small details, I want every person who interacts with Literally Black to feel the love, pride, and intention I pour into this space.
This is a one-woman operation, but it’s powered by a community of readers, thinkers, and dreamers. When you support Literally Black, you’re not just buying a book or joining a membership—you’re supporting a mission to uplift and celebrate our culture.
So whether you’re here for the books, the conversations, or just to vibe with people who get it, welcome. Pull up a chair, grab a book, and let’s celebrate Black stories together.
