Why do I have to pay to be part of the book club?
The Literally Black Book Club is one of the experiences inside The Cookout. Your membership helps cover curated book selections, virtual events, and the time and creativity it takes to make this space feel like family. Literally Black is a one-woman business — I personally run every part of it. Your membership isn't just paying for access, it's supporting a Black-owned business and sustaining a community rooted in Black joy.

When will I get my first book?
Cookout Selections ship at the start of each month. Join before the 15th and you'll be included in the next month's shipment. Join after the 15th and your first book ships the month after next. Cousins Table members don't receive shipped books.

Can I cancel or pause?
Yep. Cancel or pause anytime before your next renewal date. Just log into your account to manage it directly. No hoops, no hard feelings.

Do I have to be Black to join?
You don't have to be Black to join. We simply ask that you come with an understanding of who we are and what we do. The Cookout is centered on celebrating Black voices and experiences. We will not entertain anyone who comes in to disrupt that.

Come anyway. Read what you could, bring your thoughts, and listen to the rest. Nobody's checking homework here.
